We are excited to announce the newest life saving program of the Humane Association
of Wilson County, Fix for Life Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic.
Fix for Life is a spay/neuter clinic that will be dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation
in Wilson and surrounding counties by providing high volume, high quality, low-cost
sterilization services. We will offer services to shelters, rescue groups as well
as the general public.
We are planning to open in May of 2008. Our clinic will be modeled after the Humane
Alliance in Asheville, North Carolina. Since opening in 1994 the Humane Alliance
has seen nearly a 75% drop in shelter intake and euthanasia in their region. They
have kept detailed statistics on their clientele, which have shown that 80% of the
animals have never previously been to a veterinary clinic. To find out more about
the Humane Alli¬ance visit their web site at
www.humanealliance.org.
The Fix for Life clinic will be used exclusively for spay/neuter surgeries and any
after care that might be necessary. Wellness and other medical issues will be referred
to full service veterinary clinics. If a person has a dog or cat that is already
sterilized, we will not provide any services for that pet in our clinic. If someone
does choose to use our clinic, we will only see that pet one time for spay/neuter
services.
Our goal for the fist year is to sterilize 7,000 dogs and cats. Animals will receive
the highest quality care and pet owners will find the clinic to be a professional,
caring and friendly environment.
Euthanasia due to homelessness kills more pets each year than any companion animal
disease. Our goal is to decrease the need for the surrender of unwanted animals
to shelters as well as the euthanasia of healthy animals.
The new clinic is located near the shelter at 511 West Baddour Parkway. Sara Felmlee,
Director of Spay/Neuter Programs and Natalie Corwin, Clinic Manager, are working
hard to get the clinic ready to open to the public.

for their generosity.

“The new Fix for Life clinic will be a valuable asset to all Wilson County residents.
It will help pet owners by providing an affordable service in a convenient location
to spay/neuter their pets. Whether you are a pet owner or not, no one wants to see
dogs and cats "dumped" out - or euthanized at animal control facilities because
the shelters are just too full to accommodate the numbers. At Country K-9 Rescue,
we have worked with our rescued pets to achieve a 100% spay/neuter rate, but we
have had to travel several counties away to find a low-cost clinic. The Humane Association’s
Fix for Life clinic will be a jewel in the county's crown - a facility like this
does not exist in most Tennessee counties. We applaud the efforts of Sara Felmlee
to start this clinic - and we urge the entire community to support its operation.”
